Last night was the third week of speed work and it went well! I've been frightened of speed work for quite some time and so far the last three weeks of it have been very satisfying. So here it is:
1 mile warmup
1 mile w/ 1:00 pickups, 1:00 jog
1 mile w/ 1:00 pickups, 45 second jog
1/2 cooldown
The first couple of pickups are always a little iffy and I feel tired, but then my legs adjust and I just fly...or at least I think I do. I wear the garmin mainly for distance, but when I do the speed work I like to know how fast I'm going. And it's always off! I was flying last night and it said I was running a 10:10 pace. I think it takes a while for the GPS to adjust so by the time it does adjust I've already slowed down. Who knows!
I have more to write, but I'm tired and need to grade AP essays. Maybe tomorrow!!
Happy running!

Speed Work 2
So last night was my second week of speed work. I was supposed to do it Tuesday night, but life just got in the way. School has been crazy busy and unfortunately I attended the funeral for one of my student's dad who passed away suddenly last weekend. The weird and sad thing is that was the second time this month I attended the funeral of a student's dad. Argh...
Last night I did a 1/2 mile warmup, 1/2 mile of 30 seconds hard, 30 seconds jog, 1 1/2 miles of 45 second pickups, then 1/2 mile cooldown. I felt great the whole time and felt like I was really working hard. Mr. rt really said I needed to make sure I warmup a mile, so next week I'll do that and probably extend the workout by 1/2 mile or even 1, and do 45-1:00 pickups.
I'm not sure where I heard the work pickups for these types of workouts, but it works for me! Mr. rt and I took AC on a 2 mile run this afternoon because the weather here is about to get nuts! Hopefully the weather won't be too bad tomorrow - there are so many races going on.
I feel bad for the people who have trained hard for the Nashville marathon or even the Kentucky Derby minimarathon tomorrow - the weather is supposed to be super bad. I know what a let down it can be to work so hard for one race then have some crazy things like weather just throw you for a loop. Good luck to everyone running!
Happy running!
